In 2001, HEC spun off a wholly-owned subsidiary charged with further development of HEC’s software products.  This company, Herbert Software Solutions, LLC (HSSI) evolved into Herbert-ABS Software Solutions, LLC a joint venture with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), in 2011.  It is dedicated to supporting and enhancing the well-established CargoMax™ product line of onboard loading instruments, cargo preplanning software, load management systems for offshore platforms, and computer-based training systems. Additionally, the company is responsibile for the development and marketing of HEC’s successful HECSALV™ casualty response and ship design software used by major classification societies, shipyards, navies, salvors, and oil/chemical tanker fleets. HEC and Herbert-ABS are able to build on the great synergies that exist between well established engineering capabilities on the one hand and 30+ years of commercial marine software development on the other. The two companies are located in the same facility in order to ensure coordinated customer support.
