HEC is a small, employee owned company. Our current staff consists of fifteen naval architects & marine engineers, three designer draftsmen. Every member of our company is expected to play an active role in both technical and job management functions. Naval Architect / Project Engineer

Herbert Engineering Corp. is looking for an experienced Naval Architect to join us in our commercial ship design activities. HEC represents owners and operators in the design, contracting, acquisition, construction and life cycle support of large commercial vessels. We have a seasoned staff tackling innovative ship design/construction projects worldwide. Because of high demand for our services we would like to add to our staff in both of our U.S. offices.

The ideal candidate should have a BS or BS/MS in naval architecture, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and have about 5 to 15 years of relevant commercial ship design, construction, or M&R experience. This position involves work on a wide variety of ship projects, including new construction, major conversions, modifications, and ship surveys for M&R support. Regulatory analysis projects and R&D efforts are also involved. A special expertise in structural analysis and design, hydrodynamics (including motions, stability, powering), and/or international vessel acquisition is desired. The position requires project management skills, a limited amount of travel, some of which may be international, and the ability to carry out work while onboard ships or in a shipyard. This job requires a highly motivated individual who can determine what needs to be done, set priorities and complete work on time and within budget while maintaining the highest quality and a good working relationships with clients.

Marine Engineer / Project Engineer

Machinery selection, systems design, regulatory analysis projects and R&D efforts are also involved. A special expertise or interest in vessel emissions, operational experience, and/or international vessel acquisition and construction is desired. The position requires project management skills, a limited amount of travel, some of which may be international, and the ability to carry out work while onboard ships or in a shipyard. Naval Architect

(HES, Shanghai)

This position requires a Bachelors or Masters degree in naval architecture with good spoken and written English skills. The ideal candidate would have 5 or 10 years of work experience at a shipyard or design agency, experience with ship structural design and strength analysis, familiarity with Classification society and IMO rules, drafting capability with AutoCAD. Experience with Finite Element model building and analysis would also be helpful.

A person in this position would be responsible for

  • structural design and engineering of ship scantlings,
  • use of Class design software,
  • trim, stability and strength analysis of ship designs,
  • preparation of the ship models in the HEC design software,
  • preparation of ship operating documents such as Trim and Stability booklets, cargo securing manuals, capacity plans, general arrangements, and fire control plans,
  • and some shipyard supervision support for newbuildings, conversions, and maintenance on international flag vessels.

 

Communication in English is very important for this position because it involves frequent communication with a wide range of international clients and engineers. There is also the possibility of international travel. We are looking for excellent English reading and writing skills (level 6).

Jr. Naval Architect

(HES, Shanghai)

This position requires a Bachelors or Masters degree in naval architecture with good spoken and written English skills. The ideal candidate would be a recent graduate with interest in basic ship design and software development and production for the marine industry.

A person in this position would be responsible for

  • preparation of the ship models in the HEC ship design software,
  • production, installation, and testing of HSSI software products,
  • basic structural design and engineering of ship scantlings,
  • ACAD drafting,
  • use of Class design software,
  • basic trim, stability and strength analysis of ship designs,
  • preparation of ship operatng documents such as Trim and Stability booklets, cargo securing manuals, capacity plans, general arrangements, and fire control plans.

 

Communication in English is very important for this position because it involves frequent communication with a wide range of international clients and engineers. There is also the possibility of international travel. We are looking for excellent English reading and writing skills (level 6).

Ship Design Drafter

(HES, Shanghai)

This position requires training and experience using AutoCAD as well as familiarity with ship structural, mechanical, and piping drawings. The ideal candidate will have two or more years experience at a shipyard or design agency using AutoCAD for ship design and engineering. Any related experience working on board ship or in a shipyard will be considered. Interest or experience in creating 3-D renderings of ships and ship systems is also desired.

A person in this position would be responsible for

  • preparing structural, piping, mechanical system drawings under the direction of an engineer,
  • preparing arrangement drawings, capacity plans and other operating documents,
  • entering vessel data in ship models used for ship design analysis,
  • and geometric modeling for finite element analysis.

 

We are looking for good English reading and writing skills. The company can also support additional English language training for the selected candidate.
